the fuckers backed down

Sinclair will not air entire anti-Kerry film

Sinclair Broadcast will not widely broadcast in its entirety a documentary critical of John Kerry’s anti-war activities, and plans to show only parts of the 42-minute film incorporated in a special, the company said.

"A POW Story: Politics, Pressure and the Media," will examine the "role of the media in filtering the information contained in these documentaries, allegations of media bias by media organizations that ignore or filter legitimate news and the attempts by candidates and other organizations to influence media coverage," the company said in a statement. It will air Friday on 40 of the company’s stations.

and all it took was an fec complaint from the democratic party stating that airing the film would have been making an illegal campaign contribution to Bush's re-election effort, public criticism from their washington bureau chief (whom they of course fired immediately), a nationwide outcry... oh yeah, and the loss of their advertisors and stockholders.

This is really wonderful news, unfortunately it is still going on the air AND at least one (i think it might be two now) people have had to lose their jobs over it.

I am horrified that we live in a place that allows cowardly idiots like Bush to lead without question and people who have consistently protected our country like Kerry to have to continue to prove that he once did.

WONDERFUL BLOG!

how on earth are we not only able to have our country led by an idiotic mouthbreathin' assmonkey for the last 4 years without riots but how is it possible that he may win again? the lack of intelligence, empathy and social responsibility from the heads of our once great country is mind boggling. is there no more integrity in our country? do we no longer value strength of character over strength of the rich? has the apathy and laziness that has long lingered in us from being the superpower of the world withered us so much that we no longer have the muscle to stand for what we believe in?

i don't know how much longer i can stand these fear tactics!

"wow, thanks vadergrrrl! what kind words! i absolutely love your blog too... definitely a mutual admirer ;)

and inked, thank you too :) - you rock. and i think your last postulate is more on the money than anything i had thought of: this country IS atrophied from the privilege of being the world's superpower! it's sad that it takes such blatant injustice to wake people the fuck up.

you guys are right about sinclair too... unfortunately they ARE still going to air this thing, if not in its entirety and god only knows what they are going to be sending out over the airwaves... regardless of what they're saying right now to please their shareholders. like mr underhill said, all you have to do is look at the rnc and demo websites to know real fear. sigh. i guess all we can do is wait and see... "

and i will add this: inked, how much longer, you ask? TWELVE MORE DAYS, BABY!
